Tabebuia Ipe- Pink Trumpet Tree

Here is a great tree that will not only give shade but is beautiful at the same time. The Tabebuia Ipe is becoming popular again for many reasons.

The Tabebuia Ipe or Pink Trumpet tree makes a nice patio tree, meaning the root system is not aggressive in confined areas.
It has great flowers in February when not much else is blooming.
In our area the tree is semi evergreen. I find that often time the tree drops its leaves as the flowers come out. Therefore it almost always has some leaves or flowers on it.
The Tabebuia flowers are not sticky and messy like the Jacarandas that are blooming now, in May and June.
If you prune the tree carefully every other year or as needed, you can easily keep it in the shape you want.

    Hi Sean,

Our inventory is still being moved since the loss of our property in San Gabriel by imminent domain for a used car lot.

We are temporarily working with Al at Present Perfect nursery in Pasadena. He has been a great help while we have been looking for a permanent location.

We are very busy with servicing clients with deliveries and brokering plants and landscape supplies so the Neighborhood Nursery staff is in the nursery by appointment only. But Present Perfect is open after 9:30 AM daily.

Most of our orders are through email. We take the order and either deliver or drop the product at Present Perfect for pick up. This reduces our costs in the retail yard and allows us to offer you better pricing.

The Tabebuias are native to the tropics, but can take minor frost. An entire night of frost will damage them.

As to locating the trees, we have a great selection of sizes if you are local. Many warm climate nurseries can order the tree for you if you are patient.

I live in Hillsborough, CA, 18miles south of San Francisco. I’m zone 9 but a somewhat cold (no frost though) rainy zone 9. Is this tree appropriate? We also have a lot of wind as I live on a hill. I come down to Claremont 4/5 times a year for board meetings and would like to pick one up if possible, or have one sent up here. Is this possible if the tree in appropriate for this geography? Thank you!

Our Tabebuia varieties do well in the San Francisco areas that do not get heavy frosts. Hot drying winds can be an issue, but in your area where the winds come off the ocean, they should not be a major factor.

Your welcome to come see us when you drive through town.
