  1. Hi!

I need 26 Podocarpus Macrophy. How much for the 10 gallons and 15 gallons respectively? How much do you charge for shipping and planting? I live in downtown LA, 90007.

  2. Lorelei, It was so great to meet you and that we could supply the trees for you. Aren’t they gorgeous!

Remember that the Podocarpus were installed during a hot spell, so keep the root balls moist for the next few weeks. Not wet, just moist. It is less important to soak the ground around the trees until the new roots begin to grow into the surrounding soil.

  3. Hello, I live in Orange, California (about 5 miles from the coast). I’m interested in the Podocarpus Macrophy Maki plants as a hedge/screen. I’ll keep them trimmed at 8′ high.

They would be next to our 6′ redwood fence.I have one area that is approx. 8 feet wide and the other is approx 10-12 feet wide. My questions are:

    1. How far from the fence would I need to plant them?
    2. How many, per the sections described above, will I need?
    3. How tall are your plants that are 5 gallon vs. 10 gallon? And how long would it take them to get to 8′ high?
    4. How much would you charge for delivery and planting?

    Thank you,
    Diana

  4. Hi Diana,

Thanks for the contact. I replied to all of your questions below.

The Podocarpus macrophyllus ‘maki’ are one of our favorite plants.

I plant my podocarpus right against the fence. The only view I am interested in is the face, since no one sees the back against a wall.
This also saves room in our typically smaller yards since we can keep them trimmed (hand clipped) tight to the wall.

    2. How many, per the sections described above, will I need?
I generally plant the Maki at a maximum spacing of three feet because they are slow growing. 2 1/2 ft is better since the plants are so columnar. So in your example 8 ft wall
will require 4 and the 12 ft section needs 6. If you have a gate in these fence sections you will have to delete one or two.

    3. How tall are your plants that are 5 gallon vs. 10 gallon? And how long would it take them to get to 8′ high?
The Podocarpus Maki are the slowest growing variety. It will take up to 5 years to fill in from a five gallon plant. Our 5 gal plants are approaching 4 ft but are very thin. The 15gal are 6 ft tall and beginning to fill in.

    4. How much would you charge for delivery and planting?

We would really like to do the planting for you. I enjoy seeing our clients homes.
The price will be based on the size and quantity of your trees as well as the distance we have to travel to get to your site. To make the project economical we will have to schedule the project with another job in your area.
