Irrigation FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions About Automatic Sprinkler Systems:

If you’re considering the purchase of an automatic sprinkler system for your home, you may have questions.

Q. Are automatic sprinkler systems expensive?
A. No. Factoring in time and uneven watering patterns if watering is done by hand automated systems, installed correctly are immense time and energy savers.

Q. Will the system use more water than I’m currently using?
A. No. In many cases an automatic system will conserve water while doing a better job of watering. A properly set timer will prevent runoff from over-watering or wasting water when you forget to turn off the hose. Moisture and rain sensors will shut sprinklers off completely with adequate soil moisture. Your system will know when it’s raining or when the lawns are watered adequately and shut itself off whenever water is not needed.

Q. Will having a sprinkler system really save me time and effort?
A. Yes. Having an automatic sprinkler system will reduce or eliminate time watering the lawn. Your new system will do all of the watering for you, even when you’re away from home. Your irrigation system will do your work so that you can spend your time doing the things you really like to do.

Q. How do I know what type of system is best for me?
A. Neighborhood Nursery custom designs underground automatic sprinkler systems specifically for your home. We use only the only the best manufacturers of irrigation materials. Neighborhood Nursery has extensive knowledge in horticulture. This in depth plant knowledge includes the water required for plant materials and the proper irrigation zone it should be applied to. Factors to consider when designing as system are water source and pressure, soil type, planting materials and weather conditions. All of these elements work together and must be considered in the design of the ideal system.

It’s important to remember, an irrigation system must be customized to meet specific site requirements because every landscaping situation is different.

Q. Can I save money by installing the system myself?
A. No. Neighborhood Nursery has reworked many projects done by homeowners and gardeners inexperienced in sizing pipe and setting heads with inadequate water volume. In fact, it could cost you more money in the long run. We have gained the trust of many clients with our design and installation methods. We have the experience to install the most cost-effective and energy-efficient system possible. Todays technology has come up with new sprinkler patterns and backflow prevention (which is necessary to protect your drinking water supply). Also, with our years of experience we are familiar with plumbing and electrical codes. You eliminate the concern of mistakes in wiring or pipe installation.

Q. Will an automatic sprinkler system water as well as by hand?

A. A well-designed automatic system is much more efficient than hand watering in both time and water use. A properly zoned irrigation system can be set to water to the needs of the plants, placing exactly the right amount of water on individual lawn and planter area. You never have to rush if you are too busy to water properly and the timer turns off the water, never forgetting to turn off the hose.

Q. Will the installation damage my lawn?
A. No. There is virtually no damage done to your turf thanks to a special machine called a vibratory plow. This non-destructive procedure allows us to lay plastic pipe underground without digging ditches and causing havoc with your landscape.

Q. Will the system be too complicated for me to operate?
A. Modern irrigation timers are very easy to operate. We will set the system’s controller to fit your individual water schedule; then all you have to do is sit back and let the system do all the work for you. We leave easy to follow instructions on the inside of the controller and are just an email or phone call away.
